One of NextGRID research issues is related to Grid Workflow. Grid Workflow is a quite loose concept that could be defined as “a convenient way of constructing new services by composing existing services, leveraging on Grid resources”.
NextGRID has an objective to define an architectural model for
Grid workflow enactment, which application or API developers can target, and that can cope with dynamic insertion of arbitrary business processes at run-time. Such a model would specify a sort of “Grid Virtual Machine”, incorporating coherent evaluation and binding mechanisms. Moreover, that Virtual Machine will specify process-oriented policies through a semantically-augmented workflow language.
The definition of a Semantic Workflow Language does not concern only the specification of formal constructs and features of the language but also requires understanding of the concepts that must be represented. In this sense, research on the Grid Applications requirements and Dynamic
Grid Services capabilities must be absolutely performed.
